My Favorite Scissors for Every Crafting Need
Hi friends! If you're anything like me, you love your crafting tools—and maybe, just maybe, you have a slight obsession with scissors. Okay, full confession: I hoard scissors.
As a professional crafter and lifelong DIY enthusiast, I've learned that not all scissors are created equal. Having the right pair for each task makes crafting so much easier—and honestly, more fun! So today, I’m walking you through my absolute favorite scissors for all kinds of projects, from yarn to embroidery to vintage treasures. Let’s dive in!
Before we get started, please enjoy this video showcasing my favorite scissors and why. Then continue reading for more details:
Why You Need Different Scissors for Different Crafts
Trust me—this isn’t just a crafter’s excuse to collect scissors. Different materials need different blades. Fabric scissors shouldn’t touch paper (more on that in a second), and small-detail projects need tiny precision blades. Having the right pair for the job helps protect your tools and gives you better results. It’s a win-win!

Best Crafting Scissors
Clover Bordeaux Ultimate Scissors 170
These are my ride-or-die scissors for fabric and yarn. Super sharp, and smooth, the Clover Bordeaux 170 scissors are a dream to work with. I love how easily they glide through thick yarn and delicate fabric alike. Total game-changer!
Clover Patchwork Mini Scissors
These cute scissors are perfect for small projects and tight corners. I keep them near my sewing machine or toss them in my travel kit. They’re sharp, precise, and take up hardly any space.
Cute Embroidery Scissors
Not only are embroidery scissors essential for thread-snipping, but they’re also just so cute. I love finding fun designs and using them during my embroidery projects—they're like little works of art themselves! Because of their size, I love keeping them in my embroidery bag for my cross-stitch pieces on the go!
Gingher Fabric Scissors
Ahh, the holy grail. My Gingher scissors are only for fabric. Period. No paper. No plastic. Nothing else. Growing up, my mom had one rule that could never be broken: don’t use the fabric scissors for anything but fabric. And that rule lives on in my studio. These are classic, heavy-duty scissors that cut like butter. They would even make the perfect gift for your favorite crafter!
Fiskars All-Purpose Scissors
These are my go-to for everything else—paper, ribbon, packaging, craft foam—you name it. Fiskars are affordable, reliable, and sharp enough to handle whatever I throw at them. A great all-around pair to keep handy.
Vintage Scissors from Thrift Stores & Estate Sales
You may know that I love to go thrifting! I’ve found some gorgeous vintage scissors with beautiful designs and amazing craftsmanship. They don’t just work well—they tell a story. Sometimes they need a little TLC, but that’s part of the charm. *Tip: look for scissors in craft rooms at estate sales.
Scissor Care 101
While I haven’t sharpened my scissors yet (I probably should!), I know many crafters use sharpening stones or send them to a professional. The key is to keep your scissors clean, dry, and stored safely. I like to keep some of my scissors in a sleeve, and I store my scissors in a mug on my desk so I can keep an eye on them!
Final Thoughts
I hope this post was helpful if you're building your crafting toolkit or just needed some inspiration for your next pair of scissors. Whether they’re cute and tiny or vintage and full of history, the right scissors can make such a difference.
